Micah 3:1-4 meaning

Micah calls on Israel’s civil leaders to listen to his description of their sins.

Micah 3:5-8 meaning

Micah declared an oracle of judgment against the religious leaders of Israel whose teaching justified the evil done by wealthy land barons.

Micah confronted Israel’s leaders with the judgments that will come upon Israel as a consequence of their sin.


The second oracle of Micah begins in Chapter 3 and extends to the end of Chapter 5. It contains a description of the sin and corruption of Israel's leaders (Chapter 3) followed by the future blessings that the LORD will bestow on Israel (Chapters 4 – 5).

Micah 3 can be outlined as follows:

  • Sins of Judah's Civic Rulers (3:1 – 4)
  • Sins of Judah's Spiritual Leaders (3:5 – 8)
  • Results of the Leaders' Sins (3:9 – 12)
