Mark 12:13 meaning

An explanation of Mark 12:13

In a strategic attempt to ensnare Jesus, the Pharisees and Herodians approached Him with a loaded question regarding the payment of tribute to Caesar. These groups, although differing in political allegiance, united against a common adversary they perceived in Jesus. Their flattery masked their true intentions as they sought to trap Him into saying something that could be used against Him, either to incite the people or to provoke Roman authorities. This confrontation took place during a critical moment in Jesus’ ministry, as tensions were escalating among the Jewish leadership.
